Since implementation, our system has almost doubled in size but our headcount has not needed to grow at the same rate.
19,500 bikes and a Google Sheet
Joe Desimone ran Motivate's bike share operations for New York City and New Jersey: about 450 people, 52 vehicles, 19,500 bikes and more than 1,100 stations.
Routes were built by hand in Google Sheets. Drivers found their own way around the city, and instructions went out stop by stop over push-to-talk phones. Conversations only went one way, so for long parts of the day nobody really knew where people were.
Too many programs
Motivate tried a separate tracking service for the vehicles, but running several programs just to know where people were and what they were doing didn't work. Joe knew from earlier jobs that there had to be a better way.
One screen for dispatch, one app for drivers
With Hellotracks, dispatchers upload large batches of tasks at once, pick the right person and send the jobs out. Drivers follow navigation to every stop in the app. On the map, dispatchers see all the work and every driver on their route as the day unfolds.
All of that stuff is what we needed, and the nice thing about it is that it was not too complex.

Twice the system, not twice the staff
Within three months, productivity was up by more than half. Since then, the New York system has almost doubled in size without headcount growing at the same rate, and Motivate's other systems around the country adopted Hellotracks too.
